Waiting for Odysseus

This is a book I read about a month ago, and I also have reviewed it on amazon.com.

The story is about a woman named Jessica, who loses the love of her life in a tragic accident, and then has to learn to live without him.  It tells the story of their love and life together, and the story of her first year after his death and how she learns to live again.
Just from the description of the story on the back cover, I knew I would like this book. As I started reading, I found myself unable to put the book down. It is written in a refreshingly quirky style, that I can't say I have seen in anything else I have read.
The story touched me, as I have recently lost a beloved member of my family (though not a "spouse") and could really relate to a lot of what Jessica was feeling regarding the loss of John. It also, in a way, reminded me of the loss of an old flame from my life, though he is not dead in reality, just to me emotionally.

I think anyone looking for a deep, emotional read should pick up a copy of this book.

A beautiful email......

I received this in an email from a friend today, and thought it was beautiful (and not just because I love horses!!)  I thought I'd share with everyone.....

Two Horses
Author - unknown

Just up the road from my home is a field, with two horses in it

>From a distance, each horse looks like any other horse. But if you stop your car, or are walking by, you will notice something quite amazing.....

Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him.

?

This alone is amazing.

If you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell.
Looking around for the source of the sound, you will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field.

Attached to the horse's halter is a small bell

It lets the blind friend know where the other horse is, so he can follow.

As you stand and watch these two friends
you'll see that the horse with the bell is always checking on the blind horse
and that the blind horse will listen for the bell and then slowly walk
to where the other horse is,
trusting that he will not be led astray.

When the horse with the bell returns
to the shelter of the barn each evening,
it stops occasionally and looks back,
making sure that the blind friend isn't too far behind to hear the bell.

Like the owners of these two horses,
God does not throw us away just because we are not perfect
or because we have problems or challenges.

He watches over us and even brings others into our lives
to help us when we are in need.

Sometimes we are the blind horse
being guided by the little ringing bell of those who God places in our lives.

Other times we are the guide horse, helping others to find their way....

Good friends are like that ... you may not always see them, but you know they are always there.

Please listen for my bell and I'll listen for yours..
And remember...

be kinder than necessary-
everyone you meet is fighting
some kind of battle.

Live simply,
Love generously,
Care deeply,
Speak kindly....
Leave the rest to God

Book contest...

Hey, check out this book contest over at BookRoomReviews.

My very first post..........

Well, I have finally decided to enter the world of blogging, after resisting for so long.  I always felt I didn't really have enough to say, but have decided maybe now I do.  And if I don't, I'll pretend!!!

Anyways, with the current presidential election raising so many different issues, I have discovered I do have alot of opinions on a lot of things.  So this will be a place for me to vent my opinions, and see if anyone out there agrees with me.  Or if people just think I'm crazy!!

I've had a lot of things happen in my life this past year, so I will probably be reflecting on that here as well.  There's been death, birth and even a rebirth of sorts......And I have gained alot of insight into the person I am currently and the person I still want to be.    I'm also on the path to doing many new things in the near future and beyond, I'll write about that here also.

So, join me on my path and we'll see where it takes us!!  Hang on..........
